A Song of Mold and Cheese

OVERVIEW

A Song of Mold and Cheese is a third-person narrative walking simulator set entirely inside a fridge. You play as a hard candy, long forgotten and slowly coming to terms with its place in a world governed by the absurd logic of the food pyramid. As you roll through this strange environment, you’ll meet a cast of sentient food items - each with their own perspective on the fridge’s hierarchy and their role in it.

Through exploration and subtle worldbuilding, the game blends absurdist humor with darker themes of purpose, identity, and class struggle from the perspective of a forgotten snack.

MECHANICS

In A Song of Mold and Cheese, the mechanics focus on exploration, interaction, and narrative progression rather than complex gameplay systems, supporting the game’s role as a story-driven walking simulator.

The player controls a hard candy that moves by rolling through the game world, emphasizing smooth and intuitive navigation. Interaction with the environment is centered around engaging with NPCs and completing quests that advance the narrative. Typical tasks include activities like putting up posters, which contribute to the unfolding story and the player’s involvement in the fridge’s social dynamics.
